چکیده

This paper presents the preliminary studies of a distributed passive sonar system for the localization and tracking of underwater acoustic sources. The techniques under test are one referred to as hyperbolic and mainly developed by Carter and another proposed by the authors and based on neural network processing. Both techniques are supported on the measurement of the relative time delay of an acoustic signal detected by a set of hydrophones and the paper describes the hardware and software implemented to evaluate and compare the performance of both techniques, particularly when the sound sources are dolphins.

Model-based Underwater Acoustic Source Localization and Speed Estimation Using Hf Transmissions

This work addresses the problem of inferring side information about an underwater acoustic (UWA) channel, particularly the spatial transmitter/receiver configuration and relative speed vector from the environmental signature imprinted on high-frequency (HF) communication signals by the propagation medium. We adopt a framework for representing UWA time varying channels using a 3-dimensional Dela...

A Priority-based Routing Algorithm for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs)

Advances in low-power electronics design and wireless communication have enabled the development of low cost, low power micro-sensor nodes. These sensor nodes are capable of sensing, processing and forwarding which have many applications such as underwater networks. In underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) applications, sensors which are placed in underwater environments and predicted ena...

Underwater Broadband Source Localization Based on Modal Filtering and Features Extraction

Passive source localization is a crucial issue in underwater acoustics. In this paper, we focus on shallow water environment (0 to 400 m) and broadband Ultra-Low Frequency acoustic sources (1 to 100 Hz). In this configuration and at a long range, the acoustic propagation can be described by normal mode theory. The propagating signal breaks up into a series of depth-dependent modes. These modes ...
